Kenneth David Coates' Obituary
Kenneth David Coates, age 75, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2024, at The Leila and Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence. He was born May 23, 1948, to Frederick and Loretta (York) Coates, in Detroit, MI. He graduated from Osborn High School in 1967 and served his country in the United States Navy. On April 27, 1973, he married Barbara Bettin, and they were able to spend 50 wonderful years together.
Ken was an avid sports fan and loved to watch Michigan football, the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings. He enjoyed drag racing, boating, and traveling to Las Vegas with his family. He achieved Eagle Scout as a young man and was a caring person who had a great sense of humor. He had a love for animals and found comfort in his Catholic faith.
Ken will be dearly missed by his children, Jason Coates, Melissa Coates, and Loretta Coates; grandchildren, Justine Coates, Brennin Welch, Emma Welch, and Abigail Welch; grand dogs, Hemi David Coates and Bella Jo; and sister, Betty Karaginides. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Fred Coates.
A MEMORIAL MASS will be 11 AM on Wednesday, January 10, 2023, at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church (1110 Dykstra Rd., Muskegon, MI 49445) with Fr. John Bettin presiding and VISITATION 1 hour prior to the service.
