Kenneth L Houskamp's Obituary
Kenneth L. Houskamp, age 76, went to be with his Lord on Saturday evening, November 2, 2013. He was born July 27, 1937 in Kalamazoo, MI to Marinus and Louise (Jeltes) Houskamp. Ken lived most of his life in Grand Rapids. Ken had a great sense of humor and especially enjoyed his time with family and friends. On May 4, 1962 he married the former Margaret “Marge” Gritter and she survives him along with 2 sons and their wives, Michael and Lori Houskamp of Spring Lake and Steven and Dawn Houskamp of Holland; 4 grandchildren: Madison, Christa, Bradley and Jenna Houskamp; 1 brother, John Houskamp of Grand Rapids; 1 sister, Virginia (Warren) Haan of Grand Rapids and by his in-laws, Ellen and Burton Wolters of Spring Lake, Joyce and Bob Cronin of Fayetteville, PA and Dale Gritter of Grand Rapids. Ken was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Katelyn Joy Houskamp on April 12, 2002 and by his brother, Richard Houskamp. Ken was a graduate of Calvin College and received his MBA from Michigan State University. He and Marge moved from Grand Rapids to Spring Lake in 2008. His career was in sales and marketing with Keebler, Rapistan and Bil-Mar Foods. He retired in 2004 as co-owner of C & M Coatings of Grand Haven. Ken was a member of LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church where he had served as an Elder. Formerly, he had been a member of Beckwith Hills Christian Reformed Church where he had served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Youth Leader. A SERVICE OF CELEBRATION will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Ferrysburg Community Church (17785 Mohawk Dr., Spring Lake, MI 49456) with the Rev. John Steigenga officiating. Burial will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. VISITATION with Ken’s family will be 5-8:00 PM Tuesday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 W. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231-798-1100); and from 12 Noon to 1:00PM Wednesday at Ferrysburg Church.
