Kenneth Simon's Obituary
Mr. Kenneth Eugene Simon, age 92, of Grand Haven, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026. He was born July 31st, 1933, in Covington, Kentucky to William and Grace (Long) Simon. On July 8, 1961, he married Ramona Detzel. Together they built a family and enjoyed 62 years of marriage.
Ken served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from Brunswick Corporation in 1995 after 38 years. He was a master story teller and always had a joke ready for any occasion. Ken enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, trips to the casino, working in his yard, and listening to music. He was a dedicated family man who always made time for his loved ones. He proudly supported his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors, including attending many Grand Haven Buccaneers sporting events. An avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers with his wife.
He is survived by three children: Kathryn (Michael) Stegall, Jennifer Simon, and Nancy (Peter) McWatters; five grandchildren: Benjamin, Sarah (fiancée, Dillon Beardslee) Stegall, Thompson, Anna, and William McWatters; sister, Ruth Simon; sister-in-law, Mary Detzel and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Carol Simon, and his wife, Ramona.
A memorial service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 13th, 2026, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery.
