Kenneth R. VanderLey's Obituary
Mr. Kenneth R. VanderLey, age 79, passed away at his home Saturday, July 6, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 3, 1934 in Muskegon to Otto and Dorothy (Huffman) VanderLey. Ken spent most of his life in the Muskegon area, before moving to Hesperia in 1976. He is a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Ken worked for Valley Roofing for 42 years before retiring in 1996. He enjoyed farming, hunting, and spending time with his family. On November 12, 1954 he married the former Joyce Sorensen in Muskegon, and she preceded him in death on July 26, 2011. SURVIVORS include 3 children, Marilyn VanderLey of Madison, WI, James VanderLey of Hesperia and Laura (Leon) Alvesteffer also of Hesperia; 4 grandchildren, Michael Maynard of Indianapolis, IN, Aichia Amiri of Madison, WI, Tarik Amiri of Madison, WI and Joshua Hanes of Ravenna; 3 great grandchildren, Jackson, Olivia, and Violet Maynard. Ken was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Helen O’Connoll and Cheri Lynn; and son-in-law, Abdelouahad Amiri. A MEMORIAL SERIVCE will be 3:00 PM on Friday, July 12, 2013 at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210 with Pastor John Brown officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service, from 2-3PM. Memorial Contributions in Ken’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
