Kenneth E. Dexter's Obituary
Mr. Kenneth E. Dexter, age 76, passed away Monday, May 17, 2004 at his home. He was born March 18, 1928 in Grand Haven, MI to Edward and Laura (Kitchen) Dexter and lived in the Muskegon area most of his life. He served in the U.S. National Guard for 3 years. He was employed in the shipping department for Shaw-Walker for 34 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Laketon Bethel Reformed Church and loved to greet people on Sunday mornings. He also served as a deacon and helped out wherever he could at church. He enjoyed hunting and camping. On September 15, 1950, he married the former Joan VanderSlute in Muskegon and she survives him, along with 1 daughter, Loretta Dexter of Holland; 3 sons, Jack (Meri) of Lakewood Club, Allen (Susan) of Muskegon, and Thomas (Sherry) of Muskegon; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Ruth Hansen of Buchannon, MI, Laura Fricano of Muskegon, Carol (Richard) Phillips of Bridgeport, TX, Joanne (Stanley) Gale of Montague, MI; 1 brother, James (Janet) Dexter of Martinez, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Loren Dexter. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 20, 2004 at Laketon Bethel Reformed Church with Pastor Sherwin Brantsen officiating. INTERMENT will follow at Laketon Township Cemetery with Military Honors under the auspices of the Muskegon County Council of Veterans. VISITATION with Mr. Dexter’s family will be 7-9 PM Wednesday at the Sytsema Funeral Home, 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210.
