Kenneth N. Hooker's Obituary
Mr. Kenneth N. “Ken” Hooker, age 83, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at his home. He was born July 22, 1926 in Muskegon to Marinus and Jennie (Kampenga) Hooker and lived in the area his entire life. On December 28, 1951, he married the former Jacquelyne L. Schalk in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on April 4, 1996. Ken was a founding partner with Hooker-DeJong Architects & Engineers in Muskegon and had operated the firm for over 30 years, still working part-time after he retired in 1995. He was a 50+ year member of the Muskegon Exchange Club and was a long-time member of Laketon Bethel Reformed Church where he served as president of the consistory, deacon, elder and sang with the choir. A natural outdoorsman, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing at his leisure. SURVIVORS include his wife, Sandra Gill-Hooker of Muskegon; 2 children, Patricia Hooker of Texas, Jeffrey (Kimberlee) Hooker of Muskegon; 1 step-son, Jim (Deanna) Gill of Chicago; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Hooker, in 2009. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Laketon Bethel Reformed Church with Rev. Dr. Sherwin Brantsen officiating. VISITATION with Ken’s family will be one hour prior to the service, 12-1 PM Thursday at the church.
