Kent J. Krive, Jr.'s Obituary
Kent James Krive, Jr, age 67, passed away in Grand Rapids, MI, on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Kent was born on May 14, 1958, in Lansing, MI to Kent and Charlotte (Kinast) Krive Sr. He graduated from Muskegon High School, and shortly after served in the U.S. Navy, then went on to graduate from Hope College. Kent spent his career working as a software engineer for multiple companies over the years, including Matra Datavision, Baker Furniture, and most recently at Ford Motor Company.
Kent was a very intelligent and intellectual man and was known to his daughter and her friends as “the man who knows anything”. One of his greatest passions was sailing, something he would do with his father regularly over the years. He was a skilled navigator and the two of them won many sailing competitions together. Kent loved to teach others and share his knowledge, whether it was coaching his daughter’s Odyssey of the Mind team or explaining the mechanics of sailing to the many guests he brought with them. Kent loved reading books and watching movies, particularly from the science fiction genre. Music played a large role in Kent’s life; he was a gifted pianist and singer, and he even played the Timpani in the West Shore Symphony.
Kent lived with bipolar disorder and had episodes for many years, but he managed it as well as he could and had been quite stable for the last decade. Kent was a quiet and reserved, but very funny with a dry sense of humor. He was a caring, loving, supportive man who will be missed dearly by those who knew him.
Kent will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Emma (Josiah) Younquist; granddaughter, Phoebe; mother, Charlotte Krive; four siblings: Christopher (Aimay) Krive, Julie Stuberg, Anne (Susan Ellis) Krive, and Sarah (Greg Grieve) Krive; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Kent Krive Sr, and his brother in-law, Robert Stuberg.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held for Kent at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 8, at Park Church, 10 East Park Pl.
