My Dearest Pops,
From the time I was a little girl I waited for Kent and Velma to come by during the Christmas holiday. We might not see them all year long, but I knew theyd be by around during the holidays. I remember when Kent would pick me up and Id twist his handle bar mustache and Velma would always give me hugs and kisses. When I thought of them, I had a special feeling in my heart about Love. As life went on and I moved away, I always asked my parents how they were doing. When Mom told me Velma had passed, I was sad for Kent because he had lost his best half.
In 1989, my Mom called and asked me if Kent and her could come and visit this winter. They came out in the motor home for a few weeks, then went on to spend the rest of the winter in Brownsville, Texas with Tuck, Sue, Doc and Kay.
From 1989 on, Pops (as I began calling him) and Mom spent the winters with me in beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In 2006, Mom passed and Pops didnt come that winter.
In 2007 and 2008 Pops wanted to come, so I traveled back to get him and we traveled by train. We had so much fun on the train, trying to pour a tottie while rocking back and forth and not spilling any so we wouldnt get busted and kicked off for having LC with us!
Little did we know that returning to Michigan in April of 2009 would be Pops last trip to Albuquerque. Im grateful for all the wonderful memories, generosity and love he showed me throughout the years. For his many hugs, kisses and lunches at many pubs across the country.
It was a pleasure to have taken care of Pops, making him bran muffins, steak sandwiches, chili, macaroni salad, and steak/salad for dinner. Shaving him, giving him haircuts, manicures, pedicures and of course picking up his jugs of Lord Calverts and ordering his vitamins!
I will miss him, but I know hes in a better place.
Hes with Velma, Diane, and David again, those he spoke of often and so dearly missed.
May you Rest in Peace Pops
Much Love,
Barb Ogborn
