Kevin J. Nelson's Obituary
Kevin John Nelson, age 65, passed away of natural causes in Muskegon, MI, on Sunday, December 4, 2022. He was born in Muskegon on January 26, 1957. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Barbara (Venlet) Nelson, as well as all three of his brothers: Thomas B. Nelson, Gregory C. Nelson, and Michael W. Nelson. Kevin is survived by his sister Susan (Larry) Hovey of Arizona; two sisters in-law: Nel Nelson of Muskegon and Diana Day of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews, including Tammy Patterson, David Meisch, and Stephanie (Jeremie) Foster, of Muskegon, as well as Kate (Patrick) Judge and Rebecca (Geoffrey) Zander of South Carolina; and many other grandnieces and nephews, including two very special grandnieces: Vanessa and Quinn Foster of Muskegon. Kevin was also very lucky to have the kind of best friend everyone should have in their lifetime, Steve Willea. He was a friend of 52 years, and will sadly miss Kevin everyday. A lifelong Muskegon resident, Kevin graduated from Orchard View High School in 1975. He started working at the Muskegon post office in 1985, never realizing it would become his career. He retired in 2021, after 36 years of service. Kevin was a very generous guy who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Kevin was an extremely gifted carpenter and spent every spare moment working on several projects at once. There was always a band saw or planer in his living room, hammers and drills on the kitchen counter, or a bookcase in progress for the many DVDs he owned in his TV room. It is a beautiful comfort to know that he will have an amazing Carpenter to spend eternity with.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE officiated by Pastor Jeff Yandell will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 26, at Living Life Church (2808 S. Mill Iron Rd), with a time of refreshments and fellowship to follow. Arrangements by The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI, 49442.
“We love you Kevin, enjoy heaven.”
