L. Michael Riley's Obituary
L. Michael Riley, age 79, of Spring Lake passed away Friday, August 7, 2015, at Heartwood Lodge Hospice Residence. He was born July 2, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Leonard and Huldah (York) Riley, Sr., and he married Gail Gitre on November 16, 1955, in Grosse Pointe.
Michael worked for the City of Warren Police Department as the Detective Sargent in charge of criminal investigations until his retirement on January 24, 1992. He loved boating, traveling, and served on the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Festival Board. Michael and his wife wintered in Marco Island, Florida. Michael most of all enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Gail Riley of Spring Lake; his daughter, Kathleen (Michael) Nix of Spring Lake; three sons: Stephen (Marian) Riley of Novi, Patrick Riley of Harrison Twp., and Timothy (Sheila) Riley of Grand Haven; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and his sister Mary Jo (Michael) Small of Franklin, MI. He was preceded in death by his father Leonard Riley, Sr. and mother Huldah Kreger, and daughter-in-law, Laura Riley on December 24, 2013.
The funeral service for Michael will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Fr. William Langlois officiating. Friends may meet the family from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to The Fisher House or The Wounded Warrior Project.
