Larry was a retired Veteran of the US Army, serving in Vietnam and earning a Bronze Star, among other accommodations. He was a member of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment Blackhorse and of the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post 28. Larry was a private man and did not often speak of his time in the war, but he had many friends lost during that time and remembered them all. Larry also retired from General Motors, AC Delphi in Flint, MI. Larry was an avid reader spending lots of time at the Hill Shop in Flint, MI. His hobbies included making model airplanes, cars & other military vehicles. He loved to drive, often taking road trips to find his favorite smoked fish in the UP or to see his daughter & family. He loved to go out for breakfast, his favorite meal of the day. He was a terrific cook & his granddaughters often request that their Mom make “Grandpa’s Meatloaf”. Larry was a loyal and loving person with a big smile, and bigger heart and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela (Rich) Hyde of Spring Lake and granddaughters, Julia and Anna; sister, Glenda Burgett and her children: Scott (Tuya) Burgett, Susan (Jim) O’Brien and Stacy Nakoski; sister, Sally (Jim) Dunn and their children: Jon (Kristin) Dunn, David (Kerri) Dunn, and Julie Dunn; many cousins and grand nieces and nephews. Special mention to dear friends: Ken Hill, Marion Stellar, Tom Pilon, Judy Esch, Tim Debien, Tom Gray & Kathy Coon. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice; father, Glen; and brother, Gilbert Glen Olsen.
The family would like to thank the nurses & staff at Robbinswood Assisted Living Community and North Ottawa Community Hospice for the care they took of him these past two years.
