Larry William Maitland's Obituary
Mr. Larry William Maitland, age 76, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, July 15, 2024 in Egelston Township. Larry was born in Muskegon, Michigan on November 6, 1947 to Duane and Isabelle (Zerns) Maitland. On September 6, 1969, Larry married the love of his life, the former Dawn Marie Berghuis. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served as a door gunner and crew chief in the Vietnam War. Larry was employed by Muskegon Piston Ring and Muskegon County Road Commission prior to his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #7729 and was a proud member of the democratic party. Larry was a prankster around his home, always keeping his kids on their toes. He was an avid fisherman and built custom rods. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and going to the casino with his wife. Larry is survived by his three children, Gail Reinhold, Beth (Todd) Holloway, and Bart Maitland; six grandchildren, Hannah Reinhold, Gracie Reinhold, Landin Reinhold, Maliya Holloway, Ty Maitland, and Jorgia Maitland; and sister, Connie (Phillip) Cantu. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Dawn; his parents; sister, Bonnie Tarte; and half-sister, Judy Zuidema. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, July 20, 2024 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442.
