Larry A. "Big Lar" Weinert's Obituary
Larry A. “Big Lar” Weinert, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 8, 2020. He was born on June 27, 1950 to Willard and Gertrude (VanEps) Weinert in Muskegon, MI. He was a faithful servant of Our Lord and was a member at Harvest Church of Spring Lake and long-time member of Faith Baptist Church where he served as its building director. He was a proud veteran and Purple Heart recipient, serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Larry was a dedicated employee for the State of Michigan until retiring at the early age of 51 in 2001. On October 14, 1972 he married the love of his life Susan Januska at St. Thomas Church. Together they cherished nearly 48 years of memories, raising 3 daughters, and lived a life filled with love and laughter. Big Lar was a jack of all trades, there was essentially nothing he could not build or fix. In his retirement, he loved to create with wood and loved to make gifts. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending his time teaching his grandsons on the greens. He was an outdoorsman, whether it was fishing, hunting, camping, or hiking he just truly enjoyed all the beauty nature had to offer. In his spare-time, he enjoyed baking, reading, gardening and traveling all over the world. He took great pride in his yard and never stopped beautifying his house. Larry was a very selfless man who did not just choose to serve his Lord, but also serve his community. He dedicated his time to making a difference in his community at the Muskegon Rescue Mission, Unity Christian Musical Festival, and a greeter at his church. Above all things, he made his family and friends a priority. He knew no stranger and made every person better for knowing him. His famous words to all were, “God is Good All The Time”. Family always came first and the unconditional love he had for those in his life will forever leave a mark. His tender-loving and generous soul will truly be missed! He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Weinert; 3 daughters, Shanna (John) Mabrito, Christy (Darren) Brandt, and Rachael Weinert; 9 grandchildren, Caleb, Allison, Matthew, Nicholas, Christian, Mark, Carly, Morgyn, and Chandler; 1 great-grandchild, Ethan; 3 sisters, Loretta Halberda, Gertrude Johnson, and Margaret Matuzeski; and dear nephew, David Matuzeski. He is preceded in death by his parents, Willard (Gertrude) Weinert; sister, Audrey Hoeft; 3 brothers, Robert Weinert, Michael Weinert, and David Weinert; and son-in-law, Randall Russell. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 1:00 PM at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
