Mr. Laurence Raymond Hanks' Obituary
Mr. Laurence Raymond Hanks, age 93, passed away Thursday morning, July 4, 2013 at a local nursing facility. Laurence was born January 17, 1920 in Hart, MI to John and Flossie (Garvey) Hanks. On June 15, 1941, he married the former Dorothy L. Schutter and she preceded him in death on September 19, 2006. Laurence was the owner and operator of Hanks Excavating from 1957-1991. He was also a 36 year employee of Teledyne Continental Motors and a longtime member of Union Local #113. Laurence is survived by his children, 2 sons, David (Joan) Hanks of Ocala, FL and Laurence “Larry” (Sarah) Hanks of Niles, MI; 4 daughters, Mary Louise (Jim) Fields of Bowling Green, FL, Jacqueline (Butch Myers) Hanks of Grand Junction, CO, Robin (Bill) Hendrix of Orlando, FL and Elsie Catherine “Cathy” (Bob) Trumble of Beaverton, MI; daughter-in-law, Jan Kjoller of Adrian, MI; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joan Hanks of Norton Shores; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Laurence was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Flossie Hanks; 2 sons, John D. Hanks and Daniel A. Hanks; brothers, Robert, Ted, Milburn, Harold, John "Bill", and Earl "Buster"; sisters, Flossie Jean Hanks, Mary Louise Hanks, Jane Helen Meisner and Berneice Ferguson. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, July 20, 2013 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210 with Pastor Brian B. Sung officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service (1-2 PM) In lieu of flowers, MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to VNS Hospice or Habitat for Humanity.
