Laurin L. Berghuis' Obituary
On Friday, March 27, 2020, Laurin “Lonnie” Berghuis, age 84, went home to fish in heavenly waters. He was born, March 13, 1936 to Doris Berghuis. On March 7, 1958, Laurin married his soulmate, Lois (Potter). As a couple, they have been, and will forever be, the perfect example of love and sacrifice to family. Over their 62 incredible years together they raised two children and one of their grandchildren, after the death of their daughter, Lissie. They worked together to grow their business, Office Machines Company, still, today a family business. Laurin was a member of Laketon Bethel Reformed Church. He loved restoring antique and special interest autos, playing jokes on his grandchildren, horse-racing with his wife, hunting with friends and fishing with his brother Bob and son-in-law Roger. Laurin always put his family first, always loving, challenging and encouraging all. Laurin is survived by his wife, Lois; daughter, Lynn (Robert) Huettner; grandchildren, Dustin (Nichole) Schaner, Katelyn (Jonathan) Gress, Haley Schaner, Lauren Huettner (Will Guerin), Megan Huettner (Liam Huth), and Elaina (Micah) Woller; great grandchildren, Tinley and Ford Schaner; brother, Bob (Ruby) Conley; sisters, Lorraine (George) Haight and Ruth Warren; sisters-in-law, Rose Conley, Leona Berghuis, and MaryLou Berghuis; sons-in-law, Roger Schaner and Gregory Peake; many nieces and nephews and his constant companions, Cricket and Pandora. Laurin was preceded in death, by his mother, Doris; brothers, Don Conley, Paul Berghuis, Thomas Goosen, and Sam Berghuis; sister, Dawn Maitland and his daughter, Lissie. A MEMORIAL SERIVCE will be held 1:30 PM Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Laketon Bethel Reformed Church (1568 W. Giles Rd., Muskegon, MI 49445) with Dr. Sherwin Brantsen officiating.
