Mr. LaVern "Jeff" Jeffries' Obituary
Mr. LaVern C. “Jeff” Jeffries, 88, passed away Friday evening, March 9, 2018. He was born February 18, 1930 to Edward D. and Lucille (Brimmer) Jeffries in Oceana County, and was a life resident of W. Michigan. Jeff was a Master Plumber and Well Driller, owning Meyer Plumbing and Heating, and Meyer Well Drilling in Montague before retiring. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Jeff attended New Era Christian Reformed Church, enjoyed his cottage on Sand Lake, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and spending winters in Florida. On December 8, 1951 he married Beverly Smith, and she preceded him in death on October 2, 2002. He later married Nancy (Hall) Dykstra on July 30, 2005, and she survives him along with 1 daughter: Susan (Robert) Blanchette; 1 son-in-law: Steve Szatkowski; 4 step-children: Doug (Maureen) Dykstra, Brad (Jan) Dykstra, Dave Dykstra, Terry (Mary) Dykstra; grandchildren: Heather, Jim, Tiffanie, Christopher, LaVern, Robert, Angela, Andrew and Amy; step-grandchildren: Melanie, Amanda, Eric, Laura, Luci, Lily, Jennifer, Noah, Zoe, Joseph, Melissa and Jessica; numerous great grand and step-great grandchildren; 1 sister: Judith Coleman; 2 brothers: Gene (Karen) Jeffries, Edward Jeffries; in-laws: Martha Folwell and Fred Hall; many nieces and nephews. Jeff was also preceded in death by 3 children: Nancy Darke, Michael Jeffries and Marcia Szatkowski; his brother Gale Jeffries, his sister Doneva Mulder; and 2 step-grandchildren: Emily and Sean. The funeral service will be Thursday, March 15, at 11:00 AM at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 14, from 5-7PM also at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Montague at a later date. Jeff’s family would like to thank the caregivers from Hospice of N. Ottawa and American House for their exceptional care.
