Lavern Joseph Rakosky's Obituary
Lavern Joseph Rakosky, age 86, of Spring Lake passed away Friday, July 26, 2013, at a local hospital. He was born July 23, 1927, in Muskegon to Steven and Mary (Patulski) Rakosky, and he married the former Arnell Nedervelt on April 13, 1946 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Coopersville. Arnell preceded him in death on Decemeber 21, 1991.
Lavern was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Coopersville, where he was very active. He was a Third Degree Member of Knights of Columbus Council #9909, and member of the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post #28. Lavern loved golfing, fishing and camping.
Lavern is lovingly remembered by two daughters, Jackie (Jim) May of Sparta and Mary (Jeff) Wiebenga of Spring Lake; two sons, David (Nancy) Rakosky of Shelby and Tom Rakosky of Hesperia; eight grandchildren: Ross, Stacey, Kari, Keith, Jody, Troy, Amy, Amanda; 16 great-grandchildren. Lavern was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Coopersville with Rev. Fr. William Langlois presiding. Friends may meet the family from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Church Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Lavern may be given to Oceana County Council on Aging.
