Lavern Francis "Bernie" Stapel's Obituary
Mr. Lavern Francis “Bernie” Stapel, age 82, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020. He was born in Muskegon on February 2, 1938 to Ray L. and Verle H. (Gonyo) Stapel. Bernie lived his life in the Muskegon area. Bernie was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Dorothy Huston on September 25, 1965. Bernie was a machine operator for Sealed Power/Dana Corp. until his retirement. Bernie and Dorothy enjoyed traveling and camping. They also loved spending time at their cabin up north. Bernie was an outdoorsman. He liked deer hunting, snowmobiling, ice fishing and watching animals in the wild. After Dorothy’s death, he had a special friend MaryAnn Loudermilk. Bernie was a great family man and will be missed. Survivors include his sister Donna Rinckey, sisters-in-law Geraldine Stapel and Joyce Gomez of Missouri, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, Harry Stapel. Private Interment will be at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. A public memorial service will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Humane Society of Muskegon.
