LaVeta Parsons Wood's Obituary
LaVeta Parsons Wood was born March 9, 1929 to L.E. and Sylvia Parsons, in Upton, Missouri and passed away on September 8, 2021 at her home in Norton Shores. At the age of seven, her family moved to Michigan, where she completed her education, graduating in 1949 from Muskegon High School. LaVeta was a member of Breakwater Church of the Nazarene where she was a Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, missionary leader and sang in the choir. She worked for many years in the insurance business, first for Leybourne-Olsen and then for the Tuxbury Agency. LaVeta enjoyed traveling with her husband and the love of her life, Thomas. Entertaining in her home is something she also enjoyed, and her family loved her wonderful holiday celebrations. She was an accomplished seamstress and also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Her Christian example had a great influence on her family and friends. On October 1, 1949 she married Thomas C. Wood in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on September 12, 2008. SURVIVORS include daughter, Diane Wood of Norton Shores; two sons, Thomas (Martha) Wood of Norton Shores and Daniel (Elena) Wood of Lowell; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Janet (Arnold) Westveer. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Darlene White. A FUNERAL SERVICE will take place on 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 44944 with Rev. Aimee and Rev. Devin Mulder officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service.
