Lavon Rae Hill's Obituary
Lavon Rae (Cloetingh) Hill, age 92, went to be with the Lord on December
10, 2023. She was born June 16, 1931, in Muskegon, Michigan, to the late
John and Audrey Cloetingh. Lavon lived in Muskegon her whole life. She
enjoyed Lake Michigan beaches, walking the channel, and family picnics.
Lavon graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1949. She met
her future husband, Paul J. Hill, soon after graduation and they were
married April 14,1951. Lavon was a homemaker until 1969 when she
began her employment with Sears Roebuck, in their Cashier / Credit
Department. She moved into their display department, where Lavon’s
creativity and flair was evident in her unique window treatments and
in-store displays. She was promoted to sales and management when the
Display Department moved to Chicago. In her free time Lavon was an
assistant Girl Scout Leader, creating many happy memories for her and the
scouts. Lavon’s loving and caring demeanor was apparent to all those who
knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul J. Hill and her
sister Patricia Puls. Lavon is survived by her 3 daughters, Cheryl (Scott)
Turner, Vicki (Kennerly) McVeigh, and Lynne (Kenneth) Coverly. She was
blessed with 5 grandchildren, Sarah (Dan) Shannon, Andrya Soprych,
Justin (Elizabeth) Turner, Jonathan (Elise) Turner, Kenneth (Nicole)
Coverly, she was a Great-Grandmother to 8 great-grandchildren. Lavon will
be laid to rest, with her husband Paul, at the Laketon Township Cemetery.
A family celebration of her life will be held later in 2024. Arrangements by
the Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737
E. Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442.
