Lawain M. Butterfield's Obituary
Mrs. Lawain M. Butterfield, age 89, passed away Saturday morning, losing final battle to cancer on March 30, 2024 in her home surrounded by family. She was born October 7, 1934, to Myrl and Lucile (Clark) Draggoo in Walkerville, MI, and lived most of her life in the Muskegon area. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, canning, dancing with friends, sunbathing, watching deer at their cabin, working elections, calling bingo numbers at Meijer, sewing, crocheting, riding her bike, driving friends to their doctor appointments when she could help, and in her early years, worked at S.D. Warren. On May 28, 1955, Lawain married Donald E. Butterfield. He survives her along with three daughters, Charleen (Fred) Bowen, Joyce Thompson, and Marie Frees; nine grandchildren, Fred III, Andrea, Craig, Scot, Julie, Kathleen, David, Andrew, and Kevin; several great and great-great grandchildren; siblings: Clayton (Marilyn) Draggoo, Keith (Jackie) Draggoo, Verla (Jerry) Frick, and Marilyn Warmuskerken; sister-in-laws: Sheilla Draggoo, Darol Draggoo, Norene Ackerman, Caren (Herb) Kile and Alice Butterfield. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law Larry Thompson; brothers: Darrell, Emery, and Glen Draggoo; in-laws, Roger Warmuskerken, Catherine Butterfield, Maxine Butterfield, Myrna Spleidt, Jack and Lois Butterfield, Thelma and Daniel Wolf, and William Butterfield. A service to remember and celebrate Lawain’s life will be held Friday, April 5, at 11:00 am at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Contribution in memory of Mrs. Lawain Butterfield may be made to the Harbor Hospice Foundation.
