Lawrence "Larry" Jorgenson's Obituary
Lawrence Edwin Jorgenson, age 87, passed away in Muskegon, MI, on Friday, June 14, 2024. Larry was born on October 11, 1936, in Muskegon to Edwin and Juanita (Staley) Jorgenson. He graduated from Muskegon Heights High School and went on to join the U.S. Army, being stationed in Fairbanks, AK. On August 4, 1962, he married the former Bonnie Johnson, and the two of them spent 62 wonderful years building their family together. Larry worked at the B.C. Cobb Plant and then the J.H. Campbell Plant, retiring from Consumer’s Energy in 1996 after 34 years of employment. Larry had a volunteer’s spirit and helped wherever he could whenever he could. When he was young, he was part of the Civil Air Patrol, trained by Sinnie Sinclair. Larry was a volunteer firefighter for 24 years for the city of Norton Shores, a softball coach for all his girls, he often volunteered at Hackley Hospital, and went on a mission trip to New Orleans to help after Hurricane Katrina. He was a dedicated member of Lake Harbor United Methodist Church, serving on many different church committees. Larry had a great love for the outdoors, a love that he instilled in his family. He enjoyed camping, especially near Ludington and Interlochen, hiking, backpacking, and fishing and hunting with his brother in-law, Bud Johnson. He was an active member in the Fruitport and Ravenna Conservation Clubs and was also a lifelong fan of U of M Football. More than anything, Larry enjoyed spending time with his family. Larry will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Bonnie Jorgenson; three daughters: Sharon Pomeroy, Nancy (Brian) Colella, and Sheila (Scott) Morris; five grandchildren: Hunter (Rebecca) Colella, Chase (Megan) Colella, Tanner Colella, Emily Morris, and Benjamin Morris; two brothers: Donald (Kathryn) Jorgenson and Glen (Peg) Jorgenson; two siblings in-law: Carol (Richard) Pedler and Roger “Bud” (Kathy) Johnson; and many other extended relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Juanita Jorgenson, and a special nephew, Matthew Johnson. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be taking place for Larry at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church, 4861 Henry St, Norton Shores, MI 49441, with VISITATION taking place one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fruitport Conservation Club Hunter Safety or Kids’ Food Basket Muskegon.
