Lawrence Thomas "Larry" Karwoski's Obituary
Lawrence Thomas Karwoski (Larry), age 78, passed away at his home in West Olive, Michigan on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
Larry was born in Grand Haven, Michigan, on November 10, 1946, to Frank and Dorothy (Behm) Karwoski.
He attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School and graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central in 1965. Soon after he completed a technical degree in computing. He joined the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and served our country as a radar technician on an aircraft carrier. Through this he was able to see many parts of the world—Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, etc. Returning from service he worked first at Gardner Denver Manufacturing and then Consumers Energy as an electrician. He retired from there in 2002.
Larry was gifted in working with his hands. He loved working on computers. He designed and built his home in West Olive. He tore apart car engines and rebuilt them. In addition, he was an avid nature lover, preferring to capture pictures rather than hunt. He had a good sense of humor, and he was very generous to his family and friends, ever willing to help others with his talents. He loved to travel and made his way to Alaska, and many areas of the Southwest U.S. He often met former Navy buddies in Reno, Nevada for the National Championship Air Races. In retirement he gardened and pursued nature photography.
Larry will be remembered by his six sisters: Katherine (James) Vogler, of Harietta, MI; Teresa (Chet) Krawczyk, of Cedar Springs, MI; Margaret Boyer, of Nunica, MI; Anita (Greg) Parrish, of Holland, MI; Dorothy (Glen) Groeneveld, of Grand Haven, MI; and Lucy Karwoski Korpi, of West Olive, MI. In addition, he has 21 nieces and nephews, and many grand nieces and grand nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorothy Karwoski, an infant brother, Francis John, and 3 sisters: Frances Olech, Rosemary Fritz, and Mary Brown.
We would like to express our gratitude to Hospice of Holland and Cornerstone Caregiving for their kindness and care during his illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2025, at St. Patrick Church of St. Patrick - St. Anthony Parish. Arrangements entrusted to The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417.
