Lawrence "Larry" H. Welty's Obituary
Mr. Lawrence “Larry” H. Welty, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor after battling cancer. Larry was born on January 8, 1950 in Muskegon to Frederick “Bud” and Juella (Wolters) Welty, and resided here his entire life. Larry was in the United States Air Force, serving two tours in Thailand. He worked as an industrial electrician for Alcoa-Howmet for 42 years, before retiring this past April. Larry was a member of Hope Reformed Church where he served as both elder and deacon, he was a past Cadet Counselor, involved in the Friendship Ministry and sang in the choir. He enjoyed everything to do with computers, and was an avid sci-fi fan. On July 15, 1972, he married the former Karen Hilton and together they just celebrated 44 years of marriage. SURVIVORS include his wife, Karen; 2 sons, Lawrence (Heidi) Welty of Fruitport and their children, Ashleigh, Meghan, and Matthew; and Brian (Yoshimi Kinoshita) Welty of El Cerrito, CA and their children, Isaac and Jack; brother, Norman (Louanna) Welty of Grand Haven; and sister, Betty (Edward) Garvey of Muskegon. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick “Bud” and Juella Welty; and sister, Gloria Welty. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11 AM Friday, June 22, 2016 at Hope Reformed Church (1878 Evanston Ave.) with Pastor Steve Hyma officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 5-8 PM Thursday at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., (231) 726-5210. Burial will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
