Lawrence E. "Ed" McMahon's Obituary
Lawrence E. “Ed” McMahon, age 78, passed away Friday morning, October 20, 2017. He was born April 1, 1939 in Muskegon to Lawrence H. and Lydia A. (Harig) McMahon. Ed served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1958-1961 and was a member of the VFW Post 8846 in North Muskegon. On August 10, 1963, he married the former Alice J. Johnson at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muskegon. Ed had worked for Sealed Power Corporation for 3o years prior to retirement and was active on the bargaining committee for the Local Union 637. He had also worked for U.S. 31 Barbecue with his best friend and honorary brother, George Buris for many years and owned and operated out of his home, Ed’s Cycle and Accessories. Ed enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, riding motorcycles, and family get-togethers. He also loved to cook and was famous for his chili dogs and pizza. For 17 years, Ed and Alice traveled to Florida during the winter months. Family was most important to Ed, and he loved to attend the grandchildren’s games and events. SURVIVORS include his wife, Alice; son, Lawrence M. (Cara) McMahon of Ravenna; 4 grandchildren: Lawrence R. “Rob” McMahon, Eric McMahon, Nicholas McMahon, Alexis McMahon; great-grandson, Lawrence M. “Mikey” McMahon; 2 brothers: James (Sharon) McMahon of Muskegon, Leon (Carolyn) McMahon of Traverse City; sister, Jeanne (Ken) Baum of Muskegon; sisters and brothers-in-law: Katherine (Don) Kraus, Kathleen (Don) Liupakka; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Jacqueline (John) Russell. The family would like to thank Harbor Hospice for the great care Ed received these last couple of months. A CELEBRATION OF ED’S LIFE will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100, with Rev. John H. Brown officiating. VISITATION with the family will be from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 and also one hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS to the charity of your choice will be appreciated.
