Leila E. "Lee" Giroux's Obituary
Leila E. Giroux, age 97, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017. She was born June 30, 1920 in Muskegon to John and Bernice (Botruff) Sheringer. On March 7, 1942, she married George Giroux in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia and he preceded her in death on March 1, 2006. Lee has done alterations for clients from her home for many years and was always knitting, crocheting, and making things for the grandchildren. She had also been a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. She traveled many years with her husband on vacation to Arizona and Mobile, Alabama. Lee also volunteered many hours of her time at Beach School with the special needs children and was affectionately known as “Grandma Lee”. SURVIVORS include 3 children: Mike Giroux of Muskegon, Joe (Pam) Giroux, Sr. of Muskegon; Marie (Mike) Skwark of Texas; daughter-in-law, Amy Giroux of Grand Haven; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, John (Dee) Sheringer of Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her son, Harris Giroux; and a sister, Frances Bono. A MEMORIAL MASS will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, September 29, 2017 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Antony Britto presiding. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in Sullivan Twp. Cemetery. Memorials to the Harbor Hospice Foundation or the American Heart Association will be appreciated.
