Mr. Leo Bacheller Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Leo Bacheller Jr., age 94, passed away Friday morning, June 9, 2017, at an area nursing home. Leo was born April 9, 1923 in Muskegon Heights to Frank Leo and Verna (Willsie) Bacheller. Leo was a graduate of the Cedar Lake Academy. He married the former Mary Esther Elliott and later married the former Anna Babinec and she preceded him in death in 1989. On November 24, 1989, Leo married the former Bertha (McCall) Middag and she survives him. Leo worked as a cabinet maker, assembler and inspector at Shaw Walker for 35 years, retiring in 1983. He also owned and operated Leo’s Friendly Service station in Holton for many years. Leo also farmed for several years and spent 20 years in a bowling league. Leo was also a Ham Radio operator; WB8HAM, and a part of the Ham Radio Club. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and a life member of the Southern Michigan Trappers Association. He was also a Life member of the Masons; the Muskegon Lodge, and the Order of the Amaranth. He is survived by Bertha, his wife of 27 years; his children, John (Sherri Craig) Boden of FL, Edward (Barb) Bacheller of Muskegon, and Gordon (Judy) Bacheller of Muskegon, Robert (Marsha) Middag of Whitehall and daughter-in-law, Kathy Middag of Grand Haven; grandchildren, Suzann (Steve) Mullennix, Ashley Paulus, Warren Bacheller, Kandy (Andrew) Dujon, Shawn (Bob) Goff, Amy Bergren, Michael King, Gina Palarz, and Robert Middag ll; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sisters, Gladys Vorce of NC and Neva (George) McCallister of MO; sisters-in-law, Ellen and Dorothy Bacheller; and many nieces and nephews. Leo was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 infant daughters; son, Roger Middag; a granddaughter, Stephanie Dawn Bacheller; a grandson, John Middag; great grandson, Alexander Young; brothers, Orren Willsie Bacheller and Donald E. Bacheller; sisters, Martha Verhulst, Laura Seitz, and Ruth Antor. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11 AM Tuesday June 13, 2017 at the Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100, with Pastor Jason Sliger officiating. VISITATION will take place one hour prior to the service (10-11 AM). Burial will take place in Oakgrove Cemetery in Croton Township.
