Leon G. Beighley's Obituary
Leon Glenn Beighley, age 92, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022. He was born March 22, 1930 to Leon G. and Lillian L. (Messerschmidt) Beighley, Sr. Leon served in the U.S. Army in the 73rd Tank Battalion from 1948-1949. He also served several more years in the National Guard. Leon was employed by Scott Paper Company from which he retired in 1987 after 34 years. On July 22, 1950, he married the former Delores E. Schlueter in Muskegon. Leon was a member of the First Wesleyan Church since 1951. He served as Local Preacher, Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, and several other capacities. His greatest love in the church was to teach. His philosophy in life was to love God, love his family, and to be steadfast in his faith in Christ. SURVIVORS include his wife of 72 years, Delores; four children: Dr. David Beighley of Grand Haven, Janet (Rev. Keith) Moreen of North Muskegon, Susan (Terry) Whittum of Roosevelt Park, and Linda (Greg) Luckey of Grand Haven; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Virgil (Barbara) Beighley of Norton Shores; brother-in-law, John Schlueter of Indiana; sister-in-law, Dorothy Wright of Norton Shores; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Beighley; sisters: Betty Joslin and Carole Hackney. A CELEBRATION of Leon’s LIFE will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 21, 2023 at First Wesleyan Church (1040 E. Forest Ave.) with Pastor Jeremy Lenertz officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest in Norton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leon may be made to the First Wesleyan Church Memorial Fund or the Harbor Hospice Foundation.
