Leon Raymond Suckow's Obituary
Leon Raymond Suckow went to meet his Lord on Sunday, May 26, 2013. He was 76 years old. Leon was born to Otto and Caroline Suckow in Buffalo, New York on April 30, 1937. He married Louise Ann Wiese on June 18, 1960 and they were blessed with 3 children. Leon was an educated man and spent his life educating others. He worked at Reeths Puffer Schools and Baker College. He was a very active individual blessed with many talents. He was a Cub Master and Den Leader, Vice President of North Muskegon Band & Orchestra Parents’ Organization, and worked on fund raising activities for NMHS music departments. He was also the President and Secretary of West Shore Zone Lutheran Laymen’s League; he initiated local weekly Christian radio broadcasts of The Lutheran Hour and a children’s program called “Victory Time.” He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church for 41 years. He loved drawing cartoons and caricatures, as well as writing stories, poems, and songs. Leon just finished a book titled “Poems, Songs, and Servants of God.” He was a giving, loving, caring individual that will be most deeply missed. SURVIVORS include his wife of nearly 53 years; 3 children Paul (Donna) Suckow, Diana (Bert) Guest, and Timothy Suckow; 2 grandchildren Hillary Guest and Michelle (Alan) DeVall; brother Earl (Grace) Suckow; 2 sisters Neva Kohler and Fern Suckow ; sister- in- law Pauline (Walter) Baum and his nephews and niece. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law LeRoy Kohler, and sister-in-law Esther Ross. SERVICES will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Conradt officiating. VISITATION will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 6-8pm at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave 231-726-5210 as well as 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Montague. Memorial contributions can be made to Lutheran Hour Ministries, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, or Mercy VNS Hospice.
