Mr. Leon J. Szymanski's Obituary
Leon J. Szymanski, 90, passed away January 29, 2014. He was born in Nirvana, MI and was a long time resident of Muskegon. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a LCM operator in the South Pacific during WWII. He retired from the Muskegon Papermill where he worked for 25 years. In his younger years he enjoyed deer hunting in the winter, especially after freshly fallen snow. Summer time was time to go fishing on Muskegon Lake for northern pike. Leon’s favorite thing to do for many years was to play golf. He still enjoyed watching it on TV. He also liked to walk and feed the birds. On December 12, 1947 he married Lorraine E. Tierman, and she survives him along with 1 son, David (Barb) Szymanski; 1 daughter, Charlene Tiggelman; 4 grandchildren, James (Melissa) Posvistak, Andrea Posvistak, Lynette Tiggelman, Charles (Jenny) Huizenga. He also leaves behind 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and very dear friends Paul and Donna Goode. He was preceded in death by his daughter Charlotte Lee Posvistak; 2 sisters, Rose Romanoski and Frances Frantz; 4 brothers, Steve Szymanski, Tony Oza, Walt and John Ozaistowitz. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, January 31, at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc.,737 Apple Ave., Muskegon, 49442, (231) 726-5210
