Leona Volovlek's Obituary
Mrs. Leona Volovlek, age 97, of Grand Haven passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018. She was born October 9, 1921 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Arend and Rachel (Clevinga) Wassink. On March 30, 1940 she married Edward Volovlek and he preceded her in death on August 27, 2008.
Leona was a member of St. Patrick – St. Anthony Catholic Church, and the Slovenian Farmers Club. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, playing cards and spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Alice Mayer of Grand Haven, and Rosemary (Jack) Folk of Palm Harbor, FL; two sons, Edward J. (Bonnie) Volovlek, and Robert (Dennise) Volovlek of West Olive; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Irene De Jonge, and Alice Tefft; brother, Arend W. Wassink; grandson: Robert Volovlek; two sons-in-law, Martin Mayer, and Mike Cain.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Friday, October 26, 2018 at St. Patrick – St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Norman Droski officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Thursday, October 25, 2018 at The VanZantwick Chapel (620 Washington Ave) with a Rosary at 7:00 PM and an hour prior to the funeral at church. Interment will take place at Historic Cemetery. Memorial Contributions in memory of Leona may be given to St. Patrick – St. Anthony Catholic Church or Charity of Choice.
