Leroy E. Carlston's Obituary
Leroy E. Carlston, age 80, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2015. He was born July 18, 1935 in Muskegon, MI to Elwood and Lena (Schillaci) Carlston and was a lifelong resident. Leroy founded Lee’s Sinker and Tackle and retired from the Muskegon Post Office. He enjoyed watching the Red Wings, Pistons, Tigers and Lions games and was a loyal fan of all Muskegon Catholic sports programs. Leroy was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Ducks Unlimited and the Vikings. He also enjoyed mentoring young men and teaching them all about hunting and fishing. Leroy’s friends would say he was famous for his card playing, perch fry dinners and delicious onion rings earning him the nickname Dr. Perch. He especially enjoyed traveling to the U.P. grouse hunting and at one time got so lost in the woods that he had to be located by a law enforcement helicopter. SURVIVORS include his children, Karen (Steve) Dault, Greg (June) Carlston, James (Julie) Carlston; grandchildren, Lindsay (Kiel) Reid, Sarah (Matt) Boes, Leah, Abby, Lexi and Brendan Carlston; great granddaughter, Aurelia Reid; sister, Darlene Bell; brother, Donald Carlston; former wife, Mary Jane and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lois Yob and JoAnn Firlit; and brother, Jack Carlston. A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held on 11 AM Tuesday, September 15 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Matthew Barnum presiding. VISITATION with his family will be 9:30-11AM prior to the Mass at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Muskegon Catholic Education Foundation or the Muskegon Vikings.
