Leroy J. Meinders' Obituary
Leroy J. Meinders, age 86, passed away Friday, November 27, 2020 at Mercy Hospital. He was born November 7, 1934 in Muskegon to Anthony and Zoa (Whestle) Meinders. Leroy was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army having served 32 years. He served during the Korean War and Vietnam War. After his time in the service, he worked for 15 years at Clark Floor Machine and for 8 years in the titanium division at Howmet Corp. He retired in 1996. On April 14, 1954, he married Merel Dean Reed in Austin, TX and she preceded him in death in 1998. Leroy enjoyed bow and rifle hunting, golfing and camping. He was a member of the Whitehall American Legion Algot Johnson Post 69, Montague VFW Post 3256 and the AM Vets. Survivors include 4 children, Lesa Marie Meinders, Theresa Lee Meinders, Brian Dean Meinders, Kenneth L. (Sharon Lee) Meinders; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Tony (Eleanore) Meinders; 1 sister, Wilma Sidel; 1 sister-in-law, Marilyn Meinders; and companion, Loretta Miller. He was preceded in death by his wife, Merel Meinders, 1 son, Leroy J. Meinders, 2 granddaughters, 3 great-granddaughters, his parents, 2 brothers, Robert and Frank Meinders, and 2 sisters, Lorena Hodgins and Barbara Medendorp. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens (2188 Remembrance Drive) with Rev. Dr. William J. Rudd officiating. Facial coverings and COVID-19 social distancing will be enforced. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
