Leslie B. Swartout's Obituary
Mr. Leslie B. Swartout Sr., age 79, passed away Thursday morning, March 10, 2011, at a local nursing facility. Les was born May 10, 1931 in Lafollette, TN to Edward and Mildred (Leslie) Swartout. He served his Country proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On December 21, 1951 he married the former Alice Shepherd in Muskegon. Les worked as a millwright at American Coil Springs for 30 years prior to his retirement in 1976. Leslie portrayed Santa Claus to many Muskegon area children for over 25 years, working with Toys for Tots, U.S.M.C., Child Haven, Child & Family Services, Muskegon Lumber Jacks and Plumb’s Markets. Leslie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alice; 2 daughters, Michelle (John A.) Newell of Howard City and LeAnn Aue of Muskegon; 1 son, Leslie B. Swartout Jr. of Grand Rapids; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Cathy (Arvid) Sias; sister-in-law Pauline Swartout; niece, Cindy (Gary) Wickerink; and a great nephew, Jeffery. Leslie was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth on May 6, 1975, a grandson, John E. Newell, and his brother, Dwight Swartout. FUNERAL SERVICES were held 1 PM Monday, March 14, 2011 at
