Lessie Lee Foster's Obituary
LESSIE LEE FOSTER was born to the union of Henry and Annie Lee (Noland) Stinson on March 16, 1940, in Ethelsville, Alabama. She was the oldest of 11 children born to this union. Lessie departed this life on April 18, 2024, at her home in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. She was surrounded by many of her family who loved her dearly. On November 13, 1962, Lessie married Robert B. Foster in Twin Lake, Michigan. They subsequently moved to Muskegon Heights, Michigan, where they lived for more than 60 years. To the union of Robert and Lessie Foster were born two children, D’Angelo (Randi) Foster and Stephanie (Jeffrey) Johnson. Lessie was a licensed Cosmetologist and owned and operated Foster’s Beauty Shop for more than 60 years. She closed her business is 2020. During the time that Lessie owned and operated Foster’s Beauty Shop, she was busy trying to further her education. She received an Associate of Science Degree from Muskegon Community College in 1990. She then went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Grand Valley State University in 1996. Lessie was also a substitute teacher in the Muskegon School Systems for a number of years. Lessie was a great bowler and a member of the National 600 Bowling Club (WIBC Member). She was an avid reader, and she loved flowers and working in her garden around her home. She also was an advocate for healthy eating. The love of her life was her grandchildren; and she especially loved time spent with her family. Lessie’s love will be deeply remembered by her husband of 61 years, Robert Foster; two children, D’Angelo (Randi) Foster and Stephanie (Jeffrey) Johnson; three grandchildren, D’Angelo (Holly) Foster, Jr., D’Ante Foster, and Kiara Caviness and five great-grandchildren. She so loved and will be sorely missed by one brother, John (Vivian) Stinson; and seven sister, Daisy (John Pitts) Day, Shirley Sims, Priscilla (Andrew) Henderson, Ora Malone, Nina (Wilbert) Davis, Barbara Blount, and Henrietta (Donald) Steele. In addition, she leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends; three step-children, Robert C. Foster, David (Lois) Foster, and Brian (Robin) Edge, and many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren. Lessie was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Patricia and Odessa Stinson.
Visitation will be held 4-7 PM Friday, April 26, 2024 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444.
