Lester Ivery Jr's Obituary
Like his joy in watching Nascar, Lester Ivery fought through many caution flags the last two years but got back in the race each time until the checkered flag dropped on Sunday, July 23. Lester grew up in Macon, Georgia, and embraced boating and fishing on Lake Michigan as an adult. He devoured chicken wings and Little Debbie snacks and relished a cup of coffee. A kind man, for years, Lester transported dialysis patients in the wee morning hours as a Red Cross driver for which he received an award. Easy to please, Lester found beauty in a fresh tomato from his garden, happiness in bowling a two-hundred game, and helping his many friends. The highlight of Lester’s year was Christmas. From Labor Day until the day after Thanksgiving, he worked to put reindeer on the roof, thousands of lights on the house and garage, and made sure the Christmas choir and blow mold figurines lit up the lawn. One year, the display was designated best in Muskegon. At night he’d don his Santa suit and smile, passing out candy to the children who came to see the magic. Lester is survived by beloved Martha and her family, which he thought of as his own. His son Anthony (Nikki) of Macon, Georgia and precious grandchildren A-Kaeabea and Anthony, brothers Sherman of Macon, Georgia, and Charles (Patricia) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His mother Maybelle, his father Lester Ivry Sr., and his adored dog Cutie preceded him in death. His family would like to thank the staff at Trinity Health for their excellent care and support of Lester. The going home service will be 11:00AM, Saturday, July 29 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442. Visitation will be held on Friday, July, 28 from 5:00 – 7:00PM at the funeral home. Please feel free to share a memory with the family online at www.sytsemafh.com.
