Lester J. Stevens' Obituary
Lester John Stevens, age 93, passed away in Muskegon, MI, on Friday, January 31, 2025. Les was born in Muskegon on May 31, 1931, to John and Johanna (Southland) Stevens, and he lived his entire life in the Muskegon area. On May 27, 1955, he married the former Marva J. Langeland, and the two of them spent nearly 70 wonderful years building a family together. Les was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He worked as a serviceman for MichCon for 25 years before retiring in 1990. He was a longtime member of Bethany Church, where he served for many years as an elder, deacon, cadet counselor, and choir member, and also helped with the building upkeep and the housing ministry. He was a part of the White Lake Festival Choir for many years, and also participated in multiple De Colores weekends over the years. He loved spending time outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, camping in state parks, or staying at the family’s cottage in Pentwater. Les was a very social person who enjoyed helping others however he could, and he was always dedicated to his family.
Les will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marva Stevens; three children: Paul (Jodi) Stevens, Tim (Mary) Stevens, and Cindy (Charles) Schuler; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren with one more to come; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard (Donna) Stevens; and brother in-law, William (Agnes) Langeland.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held for Les at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Bethany Church, 1105 Terrace St, Muskegon, MI, 49442, with VISITATION taking place an hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Muskegon Christian School or Western Michigan Christian High School.
