Lester E. Bartels' Obituary
Mr. Lester E. Bartels, age 79, went to be with his Lord March 6, 2004 at Christian Care Nursing Home in Muskegon. He was born July 21, 1924 in Muskegon Heights to Herman and Clara (Zwemer) Bartels and had been a life resident of the area. Mr. Bartels spent 23 years teaching in the Muskegon Public Schools and a number of years as a realtor. Prior to his teaching, he served in the United States Marines as a 1st Lieutenant during WWII and the Okinawa Campaign. Mr. Bartels was a member of Westwood Reformed Church, and was an avid golfer. On October 15, 1949, he married Mary J. Peterson, and she survives him along with 3 children, Marilee (Wayne) Dolislager of Muskegon, Jennifer (Rev. Edward) Schmidt of Crown Point, IN, Priscilla (Gary) Oster of Livonia; 7 grandchildren, Megan, Joshua, Melissa Dolislager, Jessica, Matthew Schmidt, George, Geneva Oster; 1 brother, Arnold Bartels of Muskegon Heights. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Rudy, Cornell, Clifford, Herbert Bartels; and 1 sister, Marie Gardner. SERVICES will be 12:00PM Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Westwood Reformed Church with Rev. David Willerup officiating. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, 10:30 – 12:00PM at the church. Interment will take place at Norton Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Westwood Reformed Church or Hospice of Muskegon/Oceana.
