Lewis "Junior" Doan, Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Lewis Doan, “Jr.”, age 84, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at his home after battling a long illness. He was born April 20, 1927 in Indianapolis, IN to Lewis Walter and Florida (Nichols) Doan. He was raised in Kentucky as a boy, but then spent most of his adult life in Muskegon. “Junior” was retired from Jacobson Printing Co. in Muskegon. He enjoyed hunting with the boys, driving around site-seeing, taking unplanned trips and showing off his beloved home in Kentucky. “Junior” served in WWII, 8th Army Air Corps in Germany. He married Mary Katherine Williamson on May 24, 1951 (almost 60 years) and she survives him along with 4 daughters, Mary (Larry) Messenger, Carmen Cole, Barbara (Don) VanDyke and Kimberly (Tommy) Perry; 2 sons, Lewis Thomas and Gary Lee; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Edna Knox and Ruth (Allen) Mallot, Dorothy Kempf, Lucille (Patrick) Bulthouse and Rosie (Bryan) McClain; 4 brothers, Leon (Sandy) Doan, Bobby Doan, Jesse (Renee) Doan and Ray (Barb)Doan and by 2 special friends, Jackie Rosenberg and Bobbi Roberts. “Junior” was preceded in death by his parents and special sister-in-law, Rose Doan. SERVICES will be 1PM Monday, May 9, 2011 at Living Word Church (1551 Wood Street), with Pastor Tim Cross officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Military Services under the auspices of Muskegon County VFW. VISITATION with “Junior’s” family will be 2-4 & 6-8PM Sunday at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442 (231-726-5210)and Noon – 1PM Monday at church.
