Lila E. DeYoung's Obituary
Lila E. DeYoung, age 97, passed away on June 26, 2015 at the Poppen Residence. She was born on July 16, 1917 to Albert and Agnes (VanKersen) DeYoung and has been a life resident of Muskegon. Lila was baptized and a confirmed member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She was a part of the altar guild and a 7th Guild Member. Lila retired from Sealed Power in 1984 after working 40 years. She volunteered with the Hackley Hospital Gift Shop and designed her own patterns while knitting over 2500 baby caps for Hackley and Mercy Hospitals. Lila took part in the Sealed Power Ladies Golf League and enjoyed volunteering with the Hackley & Hume House as a tour guide. She was member of the Quadrangle Club for women in business and has supported the Community Foundation of Muskegon County for many years. For over 40 years Lila was also involved with the Angell Neighborhood Association. SURVIVORS include her sister, Norma DeYoung; sister-in-law, Eleanor DeYoung; nieces, Lynne (Rich Carney) Wood, Joan (Walt) Gawkowski and Nancy (Mike) Ribecky; nephew, Craig (Beth) DeYoung; grand nieces, Amy (Carlo) Rodes, Annie Gawkowski, Lisa (Dan) Salvati, Sarah DeYoung; grand nephews, Thorin Wood, Jason Ribecky and Andy DeYoung; great grand niece, Cecilia Rodes and special friends and neighbors, Gloria and John Gordon. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Keith (Catherine) and Melvin. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 12:00 noon Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (1006 3rd St.) with Rev. Patrick Finn presiding. VISITATION with the family will be 10 AM to 11:45 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Harbor Hospice, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or the Community Foundation of Muskegon County. BURIAL will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
