Linda J. Murphy Wilcox's Obituary
Linda J. DeCan Murphy Wilcox, age 72, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018. She was born on March 15, 1946 in Grand Haven, MI to Carl and Erma (Stark) DeCan-Torok who both preceded her in death. She was raised in Nunica, Coopersville and Fruitport. Linda was a graduate of Muskegon High School and Indiana Wesleyan University. Linda married Bert Murphy and they moved to Kalamazoo and had two sons, Chris and Tony. Linda was a very good cook and invited many friends for dinner. Linda was employed as a para professional and substitute teacher in grade schools. She moved back to Fruitport, and married a former friend from Kalamazoo, Hazen Wilcox, who preceded her in death in 2012. Upon moving back to Fruitport, she met five ladies for coffee every Friday morning at McDonald’s. She loved each one, and looked forward to seeing her friends each week. SURVIVORS include two sons, Chris (friend, Karen) Murphy of Kalamazoo and Anthony “Tony” Murphy of Plainwell; 3 grandchildren, Seth, Ethan and Sean Murphy; brother, Harold DeCan; sisters-in-law, Donna DeCan, Evelyn DeCan, Joyce Banfill; many nieces and nephews, and her cat “middi-kitty”. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marie (Bob) VanOeffelen, Alice (Jim) Aldred; five brothers, Ken, Lyle, Loyd, Clyde, and Gordon DeCan; sisters-in-law, Dorothy, JoAnn and Vicki, three nephews, Larry, Stan, and Thomas; and nieces, Dianne and Gail. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be 1PM Friday, September 28, 2018 at Harvest Spring Lake (225 E. Exchange St. Spring Lake) with Pastor Craig Gurr officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service at church, from 12-1PM. Burial will take place in Fruitport Pine Hill Cemetery.
