Linda Kay Start's Obituary
Linda Kay Start passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 27, 2024, in Spring Lake, MI. She was born in Muskegon to Anthony and Josephine (Zadel) Baykowski and grew up in Grand Haven, graduating from Grand Haven High School. On March 21, 1970, Linda married Gordon Start, and he preceded her in death on March 11, 2022.
Linda’s greatest joy in life was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, whether during family dinners, holidays, or vacations. Linda's home was the heart of family gatherings, and she enjoyed nothing more than having everyone close by. As her grandkids’ #1 supporter, she loved attending all their sporting events and took pride in watching them grow in every area of their lives.
Linda had many personal hobbies centered around spending time with her friends, including going to garage sales and taking daily walks along the bike path near Central Park. She also devoted much of her time to her jobs. Linda and Gordy owned and operated Idle Hour Restaurant and Bowling Alley in Spring Lake for thirteen years before selling the business. During that time, Linda worked to strengthen the business and became an avid bowler. After selling Idle Hour, she went on to work in Food Service for Spring Lake Public Schools for over 30 years. In the lunchroom, she enjoyed chatting with her coworkers, playing music, and getting to know Spring Lake students. Throughout her life, Linda found great fulfillment in work not only because of the job she was doing but because of the friends and connections she was making along the way.
Linda will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Lisa (Len) Grimmer and Tracy (Bill) Core; eight grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia, Blake, Reid, Makinzie, Jenna, Jackson, and Jaden; sister, Sharon Marcus; brother, Jerry (Linda) Baykowski; and her canine companion, Lulu. Along with her husband, Gordy, she was preceded in death by her parents.
A private graveside service will be held at Spring Lake Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services (213 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI 49456).
