Lino Martinez's Obituary
Lino Martinez, age 89, of Spring Lake passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012, in Boyne City, Michigan. He was born September 23, 1923, in Codman, Texas to Antonio and Frances (Urquidez) Martinez and married the former Betty June Hazen on January 16, 1960 in Detroit. She preceded him in death on May 30, 2008.
Lino served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WWII. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake and the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28 in Grand Haven, having served as the Historian. He also faithfully served on the American Legion Honor Guard.
Lino is survived by three sons, Lawrence Schembri, Carl (Ruth) Schembri, both of Spring Lake, and Jeffrey (Pamela) Martinez of Gaylord; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Juanita Hernandez; a brother, Margo Martinez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lino was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Aquilar; two brothers, George and Eloy Martinez.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Lino will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Daniel DePew as celebrant. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Spring Lake Cemetery. Memorials to Hospice of Michigan are appreciated.
