Lita P. Sampson's Obituary
Lita P. Sampson, age 78, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 10, 2015. She was born August 17, 1937 in Muskegon to Kenneth and Cynthia (McFarren) Scouten. Lita worked for many years for the City of Norton Shores, Muskegon County, and Ottawa County before retiring. She married Franklin Knowles and he preceded her in death. On August 9, 1980 she married Roy “Sam” Sampson in Muskegon and he also preceded her in death on November 25, 2004. After retirement, Lita and Sam traveled to all 49 states with their fifth wheel and also vacationed in Hawaii. Together they were members of the Holiday Ramblers and the Good Sam Club. After traveling, they settled in Canon City, CO for 10 years before moving back to Muskegon. Lita was an active member of Lake Harbor United Methodist Church and was especially proud to be in the choir. On a monthly basis she met and played dominos with retired county employees. SURVIVORS include 5 children: Lori (Randy) Smith of Roosevelt Park, Gaylord Knowles of Norton Shores, Pamela Hendrickson of Apache Junction, AZ, Dawn (Steve) Sukis of Chandler, AZ, Paula Harjer of Muskegon; step-children: Barbara Sampson and David Arthur Sampson both of Arizona; 6 grandchildren: Gabe (Noelle) Knowles, Nathan (Holly) Knowles, April (Justin) Gray, Corine (Eric) Dykman, Autumn (Jeffrey) Kwolek, Adam Sukis; 1 great-granddaughter, Shelby Knowles; 2 brothers: Gary (Mona) Scouten of Twin Lake, Kent (Darlene) Scouten of Whitehall; 2 sisters: Karen (Max) Fletcher of Jackson, MI, Elise (Roger) Haynes of Cedar Springs; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, William Chris Hendrickson and brother, Clint Scouten. A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Lita will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church (4861 S. Henry St.) with Rev. Mary Ivanov officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Brundage Wilderness Cemetery in Lake Ann, MI. MEMORIALS to Tempting Tables – Benefiting Breast Cancer Research, the Mercy Health Johnson Family Cancer Center, or Lake Harbor United Methodist Church will be appreciated.
