Lloyd G. Beekman's Obituary
Lloyd G. Beekman, age 81, of Grand Haven passed away Sunday, August 2, 2009, at his home. He was born December 15, 1927, in Holland, MI, to Russell and Fannie (Breuker) Beekman, and he married Roberta “Bobbie” Simons.
Mr. Beekman was a 1942 graduate of Grand Haven High School and attended Michigan State University before graduating from Hope College in 1952. He went on to earn his Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan and retired from Oakridge Junior High School where he had worked as a special education teacher and also coached track and football. Lloyd served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a member, past Honor Guard member, Ritual Team member, and past commander of the VFW Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post #2326. He enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, puzzles, playing Chess, bowling, and sports of all kinds.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie; a daughter, Sandra Moore of Grand Haven; a son, David (Pat) Beekman of Spring Lake; four grandchildren: Darcie (Shawn) Williams, Kristiane (Matt Jenkins) Beekman, William (Ryan) Beekman, Daniel (Toni Sietsema) Moore; four great-grandchildren: Devlin, Isabella, Lana, Malaya; a brother, Alger Beekman of Kentwood; and many nieces and nephews, including Bruce Beekman and Christopher Dunson. He was preceded in death by an infant son; a great-granddaughter, Kelcie; a brother, Warren Beekman; a sister, Betty Vrablic; and a sister-in-law, Virginia.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Lloyd’s home, 13618 Fawn Lane, Grand Haven, MI 49417, with Rev. Larry Dannemiller officiating. Military rites will be provided by the VFW Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post #2326 Honor Guard. Memorial contributions to Hospice of Holland or the VFW Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post #2326 are appreciated.
