Lois Marie Floriano Bennett's Obituary
Lois Bennett, age 96, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024, at Appledorn Assisted Living in Holland, MI.
She was born on January 27, 1928, and lived in the Spring Lake area most of her life. She graduated from Hermansville High School and Michigan State University. She married George Bennett, Sr. on June 28, 1952, in Hermansville, MI. Lois retired from teaching after 30 years at various schools in the Spring Lake area.
She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake and was also very active in the American Legion participating in many activities at the Grand Haven Post.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Ermida Floriano, her husband, George, and their firstborn son, Patrick, as well as her sister, Frances. She is survived by four children, Christine (Mike) Jurrians of Kentwood, George Jr. (Rose) Bennett of Utah, Melissa (Dave) Rudy of Holland, and Peter (Julia) Bennett of Grand Haven. Six grandchildren: Jessica, Brian, Kevin, Sarah, Alexander, and James. Eight great-grandchildren: Cooper, Nora, Edward, Myles, Hazel, Abigail, Eliza and Katherine. She is also survived by her sister, Anne Floriano.
Lois was a woman of quiet strength, tender heart, confident in her convictions and her faith in God. She had a passion for volunteering and serving others. She loved knitting, having made hundreds of newborn baby hats for local hospitals, as well as being an excellent seamstress making clothes for her children and grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Rev. William Vander Werff as celebrant. Friends may meet the family from 1 – 3 p.m. on Tuesday, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417.
