Lois A. Hickman's Obituary
Lois A. Hickman, age 90, met her Lord and Savior Wednesday, October 20, 2021. She was born on January 18, 1931 to John and Valborg (Thuesen) Petersen in Muskegon, MI. She attended North Muskegon high school and was a proud graduate of the class of 49’. She was a faithful servant and a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church in Montague. Lois dedicated 25 years working as a cashier at Miller’s IGA grocery store. On October 24, 1952 she married the love of her life, Elmer Hickman and together they cherished 43 years. Elmer preceded her in death on November 16, 1995. Lois enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, knitting and quilting. She was a member of the “Quilters” which was a group organized by the Lutheran World Relief. She participated from the start and enjoyed being a part of the group for over 20 years, bringing in her friends to help those in need in the community. She was also an avid football fan! Lois loved to cheer for U of M football, Montague, the Detroit Lions and Tigers. Above all things, she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren unconditionally. She was affectionately known as “Grandma Lois” and will always be remembered for her tender-loving spirit balanced with the perfect amount of sarcasm. She is survived by her 4 children, Mike (Rhonda) Hickman, Randy Hickman, John (Michelle) Hickman and Heidi Hickman; 7 grandchildren, Megan, Jacob, Anthony, Nick, Alicia, Angie and Kaelyn; 3 great grandchildren; 3 nephews; and many dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer Hickman; son, Patrick Hickman; and sister, Jane Balgooyen. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, October 29, 2021 at St. James Lutheran Church, 8945 Stebbins St., Montague, MI 49437. A visitation with the family will be held one-hour prior at church. Memorial Contributions in Lois’ honor can be made directly to St. James Lutheran Church or Oceana County Medical Care Facility.
