Lois Sandmann's Obituary
Mrs. Lois Sandmann, age 85, of Grand Haven passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 at home with her family by her side in Gilbert, Arizona.
Lois was born February 22, 1933 in Chicago, IL to Casimir and Florence (Weigand) Streysman. She enjoyed hunting with her father, fishing and camping with her parents. Lois worked for the F.B.I, traveled to Europe with friends and cheered for the Cubs.
On November 19, 1960 she married Major William B. Sandmann and continued with her travels, moving to 34 different homes while in the Air Force. With four daughters in tow, the couple eventually moved to the Philippines where they sponsored numerous surgeries for kids with cleft palates and lips. They also sent numerous young people to college. Lois was a world traveler. She visited many countries including Burma, China, Japan and Tibet. An especially memorable trip for the couple was an arduous motorcycle ride through South America to the tip of Tierra del Fuego! Eventually, Lois and Bill moved back to Grand Haven. Bill passed away on April 7, 1996 and Lois became a “snow bird” dividing her time between Arizona and Oklahoma.
Lois is survived by four daughters: Florence Sandmann, M.D., of Arizona, Jeanne (James) Zozobrado, M.D., of Arizona, Nancy (Rick) Tiuseco, D.D.S., of Oklahoma, and Susan (Matthew) Uy, M.D. of Arizona; five granddaughters: Lois, Lizetta, Estelle, Ann, Teresa and Michael.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 30, 2018 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ with Rev. Matt Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place at Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Lois may be sent to her favorite charity Heifer International and St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Raise the Roof campaign.
