Lola Irene Middlecamp's Obituary
Lola Irene Middlecamp, age 94, returned to her heavenly home on June 27, 2025. Lola was born to Winfred and Anna (Wirtz) Jewett on July 15, 1930, in Mesick, Michigan. Lola married Joseph Middlecamp in 1951 at Lakeside Baptist Church in Muskegon, Michigan. Together, Lola and Joseph enjoyed 48 years of marriage and raised two children, Sandy and David, before Joseph preceded her in death on January 22, 1999. Lola worked as a nursing assistant at Hackley Hospital for 14 years, retiring in 1983. After her retirement, Lola remained active, wintering with Joseph in Frostproof, Florida, and volunteering at the Frostproof Care Center.
Lola was passionate about her faith and a dedicated member of Evanston Avenue Church in Muskegon and First Baptist Church in Florida. Lola found great joy in singing in the church choir. Lola was a loving and kind person who always took an opportunity to encourage others and share the good news of Jesus. Lola was passionate in her prayer life and “prayed for everyone.” Lola also enjoyed reading, sewing, camping, coloring, completing word puzzles, and canning. Lola’s family always appreciated her talent for baking cookies and pies, and canning tomatoes and salmon.
Lola will be lovingly remembered and celebrated by her children, Sandra (Greg) Hazelmyer and David Middlecamp; grandchildren, Kim (Tom) Eskew, Chris Middlecamp, and Stacy Middlecamp; great-grandchildren, Lola Eskew, Leo Eskew, and Eva Mahoney. Lola is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Middlecamp; siblings, Wayne Jewett, Tom (Carol) Jewett, Dorothy Compton, Ruth (Jack) Mosler, Laura (Don) Posthumus, Loretta (Cliff) Elliot, and Wanita (Myrt) Gentry.
A memorial service will be held on Lola’s birthday, July 15, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Memorial contributions in Lola’s honor may be made to The Muskegon Rescue Mission or Evanston Avenue Church.
