Loretta J. Scott's Obituary
Loretta Jane Scott, also known as Scotty and Retta, passed away October 22, 2016 at her home. She was the youngest of 8 children born to Sid and Margaret (Easterly) Scott on August 11, 1942. Loretta was a 1960 graduate of Muskegon Heights High School, and went on to graduate from Muskegon Beauty College in 1961. She has been a Licensed Hair Stylist for 55 years, and was still working at the Hair Company. Loretta was a painter, enjoyed cross stitch, collecting Santa mugs, and decorating. She was a life time member of Temple United Methodist Church where she had been a choir member, played hand bells and chimes. She loved her church family and sitting in “her pew” where her mother sat before her. She never had children of her own, but was called “Aunt Retta” by over 100 nieces and nephews, along with great and great-great nieces and nephews. Loretta is the last of her siblings. She leaves a brother-in-law, Mel Marschall of Otsego; 2 sisters-in-law, Alyce Scott of St. Joseph, and Leanita Scott of La Port, IN; a beloved niece, Sue Griswold and the love of her life, her great nephew, Collier Griswold, both of Muskegon; her camping friends, the “Heights Girls”, and many other cousins. She was preceded in death by her brothers, LaVerne and Lynwood Scott; and her sisters, Lillian Knowles, Lois Traxler, Leta Ladd, Lorraine Douglas and Linda Marschall. Loretta loved to laugh and her smile would light up her whole face. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 30, at Temple United Methodist Church, 2500 Jefferson St., at 1:00 PM. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the memorial service. You may visit the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com. Contributions in memory of Loretta may be made to Temple United Methodist Church. Arrangements by The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100.
